Redec’s Refurbishment department has recently been appointed as the principal contractor for conservation works to Walmer Castle in Kent. The project will see a number of works carried out to the interior and exterior of the castle.
The castle will be shut down to the public whilst works are undertaken, and will open with new displays and new areas to explore in March 2015; Redec’s busy trades and professional staff will be working all winter to deliver this exciting project to fruition.
Walmer Castle, which was built by Henry VIII, has been frequented by a number of famous historic luminaries whom include: Queen Victoria, The Queen Mother (who spent most summers here), Winston Churchill, William Pitt the Younger, WH Smith and The Duke of Wellington; it was the latter in fact who will be the basis of the new exhibits. The Duke, like the Queen Mother, was the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Walmer is their official residence, even to this day.
The project that is made in preparation for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, will be reopening in March 2015. Watch this space for updates!
